Founders of FePYoCAN
Sierra-Leone’s population is generally a youthful population which account for about 73% of the country’s population and 63% of the economically active population of which 67% are unemployed. Young people are mostly untrained and lack the skills required in the job market and those with formal education lacks employment or jobs opportunities. Youth empowerment therefore, has been a challenge to sierra Leone’s socio economic development, before, during and after the civil war. The Federation of Patriotic Youth and Child Advocacy Network (FePYoCAN) envisage the field of youth empowerment has a solid foundation in order to build up a cohesive and united nation at both process and outcomes levels. This process of empowering level should provide opportunities for youth to develop skills and become problem solvers and decision makers. The outcomes or the empowered level refers to the result of the empowerment process, including the consequences of attempts to gain control in their communities and theeffects of interventions designed to empower participants. Thus, Sierra Leone Youth Magazine strives to build on individual empowerment, organizational empowerment, and community empowerment through research, writing and mentorship. Youth Magazine will therefore, serve as a focal point to disseminate information concerning young people successes and challenges and become a platform of inspiration and policy formulation for government and development partners.
